Pop culture: As shameful as it may sound and be at times, pop culture encompasses my life. I love watching professional sports on television and as a result, ESPN every morning. Just like most guys these days, I love my xBox when I have the time. And as far as music goes, my love have become increasingly mature over the past two years or so. I love anything I can dance to. When I'm not dancing, I enjoy some nice alternative music; some of my current favorites include Sparks the Rescue, Anarbor, and The Dangerous Summer. As far as movies go, I pretty much like them all! I love the way a movie can take you away from real life for a few hours then bring you back down (in a good way) once it's over.

I honestly couldn't tell you the last book that I read. Personally, reading just hasn't ever been an interest of mine. However, I did take a literature course at Pitt and it really interested me. We read shorter stories, rather than full novels, and spent a great deal of time discussing the text and what it meant. This interested me - being able to hear my classmates thoughts and feelings on a controversial subject, rather than just reading for the story or enjoyment. Therefore, I could definitely say that having had that class last year allowed me to look forward to this one. From that class, I think I was able to generate a pretty good understanding of what literature is. I don't think there is truly a concrete definition for what "literature" is, yet I think it's comparable to the word "art." Words used in a creative and/or thoughtful manner (just like color, lines, etc. with art) allow for literature to develop. I'm sure I'll have a better understanding of what the word means after the course though!

ReplyDeleteI completely agree. Maybe we can find a few books that do that for you as well :) Welcome to class!
I totally agree with you when it comes to music. I feel like my taste has completely evolved since the beginning of high school. Sparks the Rescue is also one of my favorite bands. My roommates and I literally blast "Hello Mexico" and "My Heart Radio" almost every weekend.
ReplyDeleteI think that it's awesome that you are following your dream of being a dentist!! I am a Pre-Med major and I definitely know what a great feeling it is to work so hard towards a great achievement!!I also like that you are open to admitting that you like dancing! Dancing definitely lets you open up and just be yourself!
ReplyDeleteHow come you transferred to here from Pitt?? I know someone that actually goes to Pitt that is studying to do the same thing you want to do. I used to have an Xbox 360 then got rid of it because PS3 has free internet and essentially the same games. Sony is where it's at man. What are your favorite type of games to play??
ReplyDeleteI'm also a transfer student! But I transferred from Penn State =) I think it's awesome how honest you are such as "reading has never been an interest of mine." And I definitely applaud you for wanting to become a dentist, I would never be able to do that!
